Nashik transporters join AIMTC strike

The Nashik Goods Transport Association joined the rest of the country in the indefinite strike since midnight last in support of their long pending demands.
About 700 transporters and 5,500 truckers from the district have participated in the strike.
''We have stopped transport of onions. tomato whereas transport of milk, water in the district,'' Deokisan Parekh, president of the association told UNI today.
The nationwide strike resulted after the talks between the All India Motors Transport Congress (AIMTC) and Centre failed.
The AIMTC had several demands including Rs 10 per litre reduction in diesel price, reduction in tyre prices, reduction in toll and other taxes.
Meanwhile, Mathadi workers in the district are also observing a token strike today folowing which the Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMC) in the district, including the one at Lasalgaon, remained closed today. The auction of onions at Lasalgaon APMC is the biggest in Asia.
